New comment. Suzuki SX4 l with mileage: noisy interior and meanness from the generator In Hungary, it turns out, there are also mountains - Matry

The cars of the Japanese company Suzuki are known in every corner of the world. Cars of this brand have also been accepted here in Russia. Most of all, Russian fans liked the Suzuki SХ4 crossover. The world first saw this model back in 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show. Then the car created a sensation, and our compatriots also fell in love with the first generation “Japanese”. Three years later (2009), the manufacturer restyled the model, and in 2010 sales of the car began on the domestic market. Many fans and owners are interested in where Suzuki SХ4 is assembled for the Russian Federation.

This cossover model is supplied to our market from Japan. Therefore, those who own a crossover should know that they are driving a purebred “Japanese”. In addition, Suzuki SH4 is produced in India (Manesar) and Hungary (Esztergom). An Indian plant produces a car for the domestic market, and a Hungarian-assembled crossover is also supplied to the Russian market, in addition to the domestic one. Today our compatriots can buy the second generation of the model, which the manufacturer released a year ago. The new model was presented at the Geneva Motor Show. If anyone doesn’t know, the Japanese worked on this crossover together with Fiat. The quality of production between the Japanese and Hungarian cars is almost imperceptible. The car's assembly is almost identical.

External and internal view

In fact, initially, this model did not position itself as a crossover, since the car was too low for this title. Initially, it was a front-wheel drive hatchback. But, after restyling, they began to produce an all-wheel drive version of the “Japanese”. After the presentation of the Suzuki SH4 NEW, it became clear to everyone that this is now a full-fledged crossover. Some owners argue that this car does not live up to the SUV. But where they produce the Suzuki SX4, they create a car that can deal with any road irregularities and potholes. Instead of the pyramid body that the first generation of the model had, we now see a stylish, dynamic, sporty body.

The car has changed significantly; it has become larger than its predecessor. The length of the Japanese crossover is 4300 mm, the width of the car has increased by only ten millimeters, and the height is 1590 mm. Wheelbase“Japanese” - 2600 mm, and ground clearance - 180 millimeters. The basic version of the crossover weighs 1085 kg, and the weight of the maximum configuration is 1190 kg. Not only the design of the Suzuki SX4 has changed, the inside of the car has also become different. Engineers have removed all unnecessary things from the interior, and now it looks simpler, but more practical. The central panel of the crossover has become more ergonomic and modern. Inside, the “Japanese” turned out to be simple and unimpressive.

Owners say that the interior of some competitors' cars looks better and more interesting. But what did you want from budget car? Yes, the finishing materials used were not of the highest quality and expensive, but the manufacturer carefully fitted all the elements and parts. There is nothing superfluous here. Volume has increased luggage compartment- 460 liters (previously it was 270 liters). And with the rear seats folded down it will become 1269 liters. Now you know where Suzuki SH4 is assembled, and how the car has changed after the updates.

Technical side

On the domestic market, unfortunately, they offer a crossover with only one engine option. This is a 4 cylinder 1.6 liter gasoline unit, issuing 117 Horse power power (156 Nm). The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission. In general, the updated Suzuki SH4 was equipped with the same engine that was on the first generation of the model, it was only slightly modernized. Japanese engineers increased power power plant and fixed some defects.

WITH manual transmission the crossover reaches 180 kilometers per hour maximum speed. To accelerate the car to the first hundred, it will take eleven seconds. In terms of fuel consumption, the car is economical. On the highway the car will last only five liters, in the city - seven, and in the combined cycle - 5.8 liters. A car with a CVT accelerates to the first hundred in 12.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 175 kilometers per hour. The difference in fuel consumption is ten liters. Perhaps in the near future a diesel version of the car will be supplied to our market. The Japanese have installed modern security systems (ESP, ABS, BAS, EBD) on the updated crossover.

Where they produce Suzuki SH4, they took into account Russian operating conditions, therefore, the car easily overcomes off-road conditions and other uneven terrain. Basic option The car will cost buyers 749,000 rubles. The maximum equipped crossover costs 1,099,000 rubles. Prices vary depending on configuration. For a car with such performance and “stuffing”, this is quite a decent price.

During the creation of the SX4, Suzuki was “friends” with Fiat, so don’t be surprised by either Fiat turbodiesels under the hood of these cars or other smaller borrowings. And don’t be shocked by the presence of a “twin” Fiat Sedici, suspiciously similar to the SX4: the companies worked together on the model, and Giugiaro himself was involved in the design.

Don't be afraid of the Hungarian assembly: the quality of the cars remains Japanese, regardless of the country of assembly. It may not be as high as Toyota's, but there is definitely something to brag about.

True, the car itself is made cheap. In every sense - both in the quality of materials and in the thoroughness of handling, comfort and ergonomics. It’s good that the cost of operation is also good.

Now the oldest cars of this model have passed the ten-year age threshold, but the majority are just approaching it: most of the cars were sold after 2008. Let’s see how a car of this age and class handles our roads, because it’s no secret that small cars are made worse and simpler than big and expensive ones.

By the way, in addition to Hungary, where Suzuki has its own factory where most SX4s were produced for the Russian market, SX4s were also produced in Japan, India, Indonesia and China.

Body

The bodies of the five-door “off-road” SX4 generally hold up well. The main drawback noted is the relatively thin and weak layer of paint, which is prone to chipping and easily peels off in places of damage. Unfortunately, not all manufacturers manage to apply paint well to galvanized metal, and Suzuki had little experience in this matter. However, these are all trifles, and in general it is thanks to galvanizing that this generation of cars has almost ceased to suffer from age-related corrosion, which is what previous models were “famous for”.

U off-road vehicles the sills and arches are well protected by plastic overlays, and if the body has been looked after a little, preventing pitting corrosion from spreading, washing away dirt from under the overlays and sills and sometimes renewing the anti-corrosion, then the body holds up no worse than that of European Volkswagen and Volvo. The areas of paintwork damage on the doors and fenders are practically not prone to corrosion, and the hood and frame windshield They hold up, though worse, but only slightly.

Traditionally at risk is backdoor. Especially on cars with a simple paint job, while metallic paint lasts a little more reliably. The places of damage on the fifth door are standard: the lower folding and the line of contact between the hood and rear lights with metal.

Pictured: Suzuki SX4 "2009–14

From below the car everything is a little more complicated. Under the plastic lockers, the metal is covered only with paint and really does not like the accumulation of dirt that plague cars that are often off-road. They need to wash all possible places where soil accumulates, especially in thresholds and arches.

The anti-corrosive layer on the bottom is also not record-breaking, but it gets scratched often. When purchasing, it is worth checking both the condition of the coating on the bottom and the condition of the bumper fastenings and plastic sills. They break off regularly, and despite the relatively low price tag for original parts, they are very reluctant to replace them.

Front wing

price for original

6,786 rubles

Among the troubles that have a bad effect on the condition of the body as a whole, we note possible leaks of the roof rail fastenings and plugs in the bottom. The latter are often damaged, which leads to the accumulation of water in the thin layer of sound insulation on the bottom of the car. Fortunately, this nuisance is rare, and its existence is easy to verify. Moreover, it is necessary to check: cars with this defect may have through corrosion bottom in the driver's feet and numerous traces of seam corrosion from the inside.

While the fuel pump is not very reliable, there is no hatch in the cabin to access it and replace it. Of course, no one is in a hurry to remove the tank, so the hole is simply cut out with a crown or a grinder (the choice of tool depends on the desire of the barbarians in the car service). It is clear that the condition of the body in the area of the new hatch can be very different. Rarely does anyone immediately care about the condition of the seam, and in this area, due to the accumulation of dirt at the top of the gas tank and poor ventilation, it is usually quite humid.

The sheet metal front subframe is thin and rusts quickly and badly. The subframe anticorrosive agent needs to be updated regularly, but most owners neglect this operation. After a run of one and a half to two hundred thousand kilometers, you need to check it carefully, not only from the bottom, but also from the top, where moisture accumulates.

Spars near the beam fastening rear suspension the beam itself will also require close attention. Massive surface corrosion can often be found here.

Often, instead of clips for fastening thresholds and bumpers, you can find ordinary screws. This is especially true for cars from the outback and after careless operation. This is due to the poorer availability of spare parts and, again, the low cost of the model and its maintenance. Unfortunately, many perceive the car as a competitor to the Niva and Zhiguli and treat Suzuki accordingly.

Windshield

price for original

20,004 rubles

The glass of fog lights can easily crack due to temperature changes and flying stones. Well, rubbing headlights and weak windshields are a common occurrence for any budget car.

After hundreds of thousands of miles, there is usually something to put your hands to. Smokers often get scratches on the side windows: the poor seal material collects small pebbles, and the glass itself is soft.

Relatively thin and fragile bumpers are definitely not suitable for off-road use, but the price of the bumper base is also low. The main thing is not to lose the grilles and moldings.

The driver's door stopper crackles after 60-80 thousand miles, but the door holds. But the window regulators often unscrew, which is why the front windows do not rise all the way. Repairing them is easy: you just need to tighten a couple of mounting bolts onto the clamp. But the doors will have to be disassembled, which often results in breakage of the fragile plastic.

Pictured: Suzuki SX4 "2009–14

The windshield wiper trapezoid may bend, after which you will need to reset the position of the arms. But it rarely turns sour, and mainly for those whose car costs more than it drives.

Salon

The interior of the car is simple and poor. Fortunately, the plastic of the front panel and door panels resists time well, but the seats, floor carpet and plastic “guts” hold up less well. The interior of the car makes at least a slight rumble. And it’s good that we mainly present post-restyling cars: pre-restyling cars have a worse interior and age faster.

In the photo: Interior of Suzuki SX4 "2006–10

Somewhere more, somewhere less, depending on the year and condition, the glove box mount, climate system air ducts, armrest box and center console linings rattle. And the windows are also knocking in the doors. Fortunately, at speed you can’t hear all this: the tires and engine muffle the noise, and if the car is all-wheel drive, then the transmission also helps them. But if suddenly the asphalt is smooth and the tires are quiet, then get ready to listen to these sounds.

True, after 130 km/h everything is drowned out by wind noise: the door seals are not very good, the glass is thin, and the mirrors are large. And music can’t drown this out, it’s weak here.

The seats and steering wheel do not hide the mileage, and after 60-80 thousand mileage the plastic already looks slightly greasy, and the seats begin to lose their shape. Closer to two hundred thousand mileage, the seat frame may capitulate. If the driver weighs more than 100 kilograms, the frame can even be broken, but more often something inside just starts to creak, and the microlift stops working.

In the photo: Interior of Suzuki SX4 "2009–14

Well-groomed specimens that know the delights of dry cleaning and even additional sound insulation are very rare. The bulk of cars with over a hundred thousand mileage sport a very shabby interior, which can be considered a serious drawback. So the year and mileage are very important here (and also the owner and place of operation).

But the fact that drivers taller than 170 cm cannot find a good seating position will have to come to terms with a car of any age. Even if the uncomfortable seat with a short cushion can be placed in such a way that it will be comfortable to steer and press the pedals (which is difficult to do in the absence of normal adjustment of the steering wheel), then the visibility will be absolutely “no” at all. A KamAZ truck can easily be hidden behind the side pillars with a “triangle”, and the edge of the hood will not be visible behind the inflated front panel.

Electrics

Fortunately, everything is reliable here, and mostly only the generator fails. Either it is poorly located, or competitors from Mitsubishi, whose unit is most often installed, failed, but its bearings are jammed. Lubricating the outside of bearings by spraying is useless and dangerous: fires can occur from excess lubricant. It’s good that on cars with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, changing the generator is easy and convenient.

On cars before restyling, failures of the starter and high-voltage wires still regularly occur, but this is most likely due to age. The wires just need to be changed sometimes, but the starter is afraid of dirt.

Of course, some malfunctions happen, but they are not regular. The only problem with the multimedia system is its weak CD drive and amplifier.

Brakes, suspension and steering

The braking system is quite serious for such a small car and it works reliably. The service life of the pads and discs is more than sufficient, so cars with manual transmissions usually still have original discs that cost a hundred thousand. Even with an automatic transmission, the disk life is still enough for 60-80 thousand kilometers. The pads are not so durable, but they last 30-50 thousand.

Pictured: Suzuki SX4 "2009–14

The calipers are reliable, the turbocharger is strong, the ABS works well, and its sensors are well protected. The rear drums generally last almost forever. The main thing is to check that they are still braking: sometimes the mechanism jams due to corrosion and wear.

The car's suspension is not as strong as we would like. The resource turned out to be surprisingly small wheel bearings, especially the rear ones. After 60 thousand mileage, some cars are already starting to hum a little, although most cars will require bearings to be replaced at a mileage twice as long. True, this is not a very outstanding result, especially considering that the SX4 does not have low-profile and wide tires and super-powerful engines.

Pictured: Suzuki SX4 "2009–14

There is a simple and reliable beam at the back. The only disadvantage we can note is the tendency to corrosion of the central part.

At the front there is MacPherson type suspension. It has a relatively weak lever design: it is easy to bend, and spherical bearing does not change separately as standard. On non-original TRW levers, the support can be changed separately, but replacement ball bearings do not always fit the levers of the old design.

Front shock absorber

price for original

6,030 rubles

Shock absorbers can withstand much more than 100 thousand mileage, and at 200 thousand they often remain original (of course, if the car has not been overloaded or driven on the ground), but the strut supports in the front sag. A souring bearing often requires replacement, and it is better to change it as soon as it starts to creak. Otherwise, increased wear of the shock absorber rod seals can lead to oil leakage.

The front springs on jogging cars lose their upper coils.

The steering is quite reliable. The problem with cars before restyling - knocking rack - has become less common on restyled cars. Moreover, if the knocking on the pre-restyling could begin after 30-40 thousand mileage, then the rack of the post-restyling SX4 can withstand three times more.

Pictured: Suzuki SX4 "2006–10

Usually the problem lies in the materials of the bushings of the rack itself and its fastening. It is recommended to repair immediately, without waiting for the knock to break the gear drive. It is advisable to check the rack seals more often and update the lubricant at every second maintenance.

The low resource of the rack tips should not be considered a big problem: they do not break unexpectedly, so it is enough to periodically monitor their condition.

The EUR does not tolerate “bathing” and washing the engine compartment very well. Power connectors lose their seal with age, so you can end up with melted contacts or simply system failures.

Pictured: Suzuki SX4 "2006–10

Of course, the SX4 is nothing like Land Rover Discovery or Mercedes-Benz G-Class. This crossover is not that prestigious, comfortable or beautiful (although not everyone likes the appearance of the Gelik either). But it is inexpensive and rarely breaks. True, we have not yet said anything about the engines and gearboxes of this “Japanese”, but...

Suzuki SX4 again? After last year I and our expert group conducted comparative test three versions of this crossover at once (AR No. 13, 2010)? But our hands invariably ended up with Japanese-assembled cars. And soon only Hungarian-made SX4 will be sold in Russia. What is the difference - and why abandon the “island” cars?

The second question is easier to answer. Firstly, this allows you to save on delivery - cars from Hungary reach domestic dealers four times faster, in just two to three weeks. And secondly, now Russian prices“untied” from fluctuations in the yen exchange rate. After all, the most popular versions with automatic transmissions were supplied from Japan, which are chosen by more than 60% of buyers.

The Hungarian crossover has different front bumper, paint colors, the antenna is located at the upper edge of the windshield, the interior upholstery is two-color, the battery has a capacity increased to 60 Ah, there is no double floor in the trunk, and the rear seats fold entirely, whereas in the “Japanese” only parts of the backrest can be lowered. There are also smaller differences, such as the shape of the cup holders and the color of the rear light lenses. But the most interesting thing is that the all-wheel drive car from Hungary has a higher ground clearance - 190 mm versus 175 mm for Japanese-made cars. Moreover, I never got an official answer to the question of what caused this difference!

A large “double-din” multimedia center has already appeared on Russian cars for an additional payment of 26 thousand rubles. In addition to Russification, USB and AUX inputs, compatibility with Apple devices and Bluetooth protocol, it is loaded with Tele Atlas maps. But the amount of knowledge of Russian roads is extremely modest - the streets of two capitals and their regions

There is no double floor in the trunk of Hungarian cars. Length of cargo area when folded back seat- 110 cm

The investigation showed that if “Japanese” bets Kayaba shock absorbers, then for the Hungarian plant the supplier is most often Monroe. Cars from Hungary have different steering knuckles and springs. And when I crawled under Hungarian cars with a tape measure, it turned out that if front-wheel drive cars are not higher than Japanese ones (with real ground clearance from 158 mm to 163 mm), then the ground clearance of an all-wheel drive crossover is at least 173 mm. And what about “mechanics”, what about “automatic”.

But on driving performance this did not affect - the SX4 is still the same: harsh, but pleasant to drive. And in the range power units Russian cars, perhaps there will be... a turbodiesel! Two-liter engine from the Fiat Multijet line, in addition to Suzuki, it is installed on cars such as Alfa Romeo 159, Giulietta or Lancia Delta. Torque is as much as 320 Nm versus 150 Nm for the 1.6 petrol engine, diesel fuel consumption in the combined cycle is about six liters per hundred. Already from 1500 rpm the thrust is such that gasoline engines have never dreamed of. It’s a pity that at 3000 rpm the diesel engine reaches its peak and begins to “deflate” to an unpleasant noise, and shifting gears with the six-speed manual gearbox is less pleasant than with the five-speed manual gearbox that is familiar to the SX4. This box is combined with a 1.6 turbodiesel, but there were no such cars among the test ones. A combination of an automatic transmission and a diesel engine, alas, is not provided.

By the way, it is the diesel SX4 that is most popular in Hungary, although diesel fuel and gasoline cost almost the same here, about 58 rubles per liter. In Russia, fortunately, fuel is half the price. By the way, our market among all Suzuki export sites is the second largest in the world after India. Last year, almost 29 thousand Suzuki cars were sold in Russia, next year sales should grow to 50-60 thousand cars - a new Swift has appeared, an active advertising campaign for the Kizashi sedan will begin, but the locomotive will still remain Grand Vitara. Moreover, there is every chance that the new generation SUV will retain four-wheel drive with center differential and range - largely at the request of the Russian market!

And the Suzuki SX4 should find 13,800 buyers this year - this is a third of the sales volume of all cars of the brand. The new SX4 will arrive in two years. I wonder what ground clearance?

The building of the Hungarian Parliament took two decades to build, from 1885 to 1904. Now it is a symbol of Budapest

Magyar Suzuki

In the center of the town of Esthergom stands the majestic Basilica of St. Adalbert - the tallest building in Hungary. And on the outskirts is the Magyar Suzuki plant (read “Magyar”, that is, “Hungarian”), built on a plain near the green spurs of the Carpathians. Together with warehouses and parking lots for finished cars it occupies only 57 hectares - three times less than the area of the territory Nissan plant near St. Petersburg, and four times - Volkswagen enterprises in Grabtsevo. Nevertheless, in terms of production capacity - 300 thousand cars with a three-shift operating mode - Magyar Suzuki surpasses them combined!

Now they work here in two shifts and are preparing to celebrate the anniversary - the production of the two millionth car. The debut copy, the first generation Suzuki Swift hatchback, left the assembly shop in October 1992. Later, the Wagon R and Ignis microvans were put on the conveyor. Currently in the production program are the tiny twins Suzuki Splash and Opel Agila, Suzuki Swift and a couple Suzuki crossovers SX4/Fiat Sedici. It is interesting that parking spaces in the parking lot here are distributed on a “national” basis - only Suzuki cars can be parked in the rows closest to the entrance.

Welding robots grab the sidewalls - and the skeleton of the Suzuki Swift hatchback is ready

From the point of view of production technology and even equipment, there is no difference between Esterg and, say, Iwata or Totsuka, where the “home” factories are located. The same press line of five giants Hitachi Zosen and Aida with a force of 5600 tons. The most powerful one even stamps large parts like a floor panel or roof, and in addition, sheets of steel are turned into 192 parts here, which are sent to neighboring welding lines with 500 robots.

Most of the plant's 3,500 workers are involved in final assembly, with most of the 335 operations done by hand. Moreover, only a fifth of the components come from Japan: first of all, this gasoline engines. There is also an emergency andon cord on the assembly line. Even two. The yellow one should be taken if help is needed, and the red one should be taken in case it is not possible to cope with the problem without stopping the assembly line. Daily downtime does not exceed ten minutes.

Watches and jewelry must be removed before work to avoid damaging the cars.

Of the 850 cars produced daily in Esthergom, every tenth is a Fiat Sedici crossover

The man on the right is the foreman. He's currently checking out the newly stamped door panels for the Suzuki SX4.

Working in production here is considered prestigious. The salary of a collector is higher than the regional average - about 150 thousand forints. In conversion, it turns out to be 22,500 rubles, just like at Russian “foreign-brand” car factories. True, the price level in Hungary is lower, including for cars.

Previously, they brought to us from the Land of the Rising Sun front and four-wheel drive vehicles in the top-end GLX configuration and with automatic transmission transmission They accounted for more than half of sales. Now their production has been established at the Hungarian Suzuki plant. There are several advantages from changing the location of production: Russian prices have become less dependent on the rise in the yen exchange rate, and delivery times have been reduced. After all, cars from Europe get to us much faster - in about three to four weeks (not months).

By the way, the Hungarian Suzukis seem to be the same from the outside as their Japanese counterparts, but there are still differences between them: the “Europeans” have a different front bumper and a set of color options, two-tone upholstery, a battery with a capacity increased to 60 Ah, a relocated there is an antenna from the rear of the body to the front edge of the windshield, an orange color for the lower section of the rear lights (instead of white), a square shape of the cup holders, etc. But the most important thing is that in all-wheel drive vehicles the ground clearance has been increased by 15 mm (up to 190).

These differences did not affect driving performance. The SX4 is still extremely stable; even a well-rolled asphalt track does not throw the car off balance. In corners, the Suzuki behaves reliably and predictably, steering informative - you always clearly understand and control the situation. If you overdo it with speed, the car begins to float smoothly to the outside of the turn. Electronic system stabilization is included in the work in a timely and delicate manner. The suspension itself is still a bit harsh. It provides detailed information about the condition of the road surface, but does not shake your soul. The only criticism is the level of acoustic comfort: aerodynamic noise, rustling tires are clearly audible in the cabin, and high speed they are joined by the mournful howl of the engine.

In addition to versions with the well-known 1.6-liter gasoline engine with 112 hp. paired with a 5-speed manual transmission gears or a 4-speed automatic, we were able to test the car with a 135-horsepower turbodiesel. The 2.0 liter engine from Fiat's Multijet line is a great fit for the SX4. Already from 1500 rpm it pulls very vigorously. The torque is more than two times greater than that of its gasoline counterpart (320 N m versus 150) - just like a small diesel locomotive. Average consumption Diesel fuel turned out to be around 6 l/100 km, which was very pleasing. This engine is offered to Europeans, and is supplied exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Russian representative office of Suzuki does not rule out that the SX4, equipped with a turbodiesel, will appear in Russia, but this will most likely happen no earlier than next year. I hope the promise comes true.

"MAGYAR SUZUKI CORPORATION"

The Esztergom plant has been operating since 1992. This year will mark the production of the two millionth car. The enterprise is designed to produce 300,000 cars per year, but now the plant is only two-thirds full. Hungarian the lineup includes the Suzuki Swift, as well as the Suzuki Splash/Opel Aguila, Suzuki SX4/FIAT Sedici twins.

Cars are assembled in a full cycle. The process is almost completely automated. Bodies, for example, are welded exclusively by robots; there are about five hundred of them in this area. The majority of workers are employed on the final assembly line.

The Russian market is one of the priorities for Suzuki. Last year, 29,000 cars were sold in Russia, and plans for this year are even more ambitious - 50,000–60,000 units, of which 13,800 are SX4 crossovers.

The Suzuki CX4 debuted in 2006. The company presented its new model at the Geneva salon. Its full name is Sport Crossover 4x4 Seasons, but it was rarely used in wide circles. At the beginning of development Japanese company decided to merge with the Italian Fiat. The result of joint work was Sedici in Italy. The car is still on Russian market is in demand among consumers. The owners fell in love with it, first of all, because of the cost, which was combined with the good cross-country ability of the model.

However, over time, the weak points of the Suzuki CX4 became known: design, cramped interior, increased level noise, stiff suspension, and there is no need to mention passenger comfort at all. However, the car's pricing policy prevailed and contributed to an increase in sales. Why did it happen? But the fact is that, along with the above disadvantages, there are some characteristics, in the presence of which the disadvantages no longer seem so significant.

After restyling in 2009, noticeable changes appeared. In general, we can say that they benefited the car. A year later, the updated SX4 appeared on the Russian markets.

Second generation of crossover SX4

In 2013, a new version of Suzuki was released. have increased significantly, there is more space in the cabin. Now the SX4 model rightfully bears the title of crossover. Its length increased by as much as 150 mm and became 4300 mm, the width also underwent changes (1765 mm), which was a difference of 10 mm with the previous version. Increasing the wheelbase by 100 mm improved the stability of the Suzuki CX4. The technical characteristics of the new version were impressive: maneuverability and controllability increased by several levels, and this, despite the previous, albeit somewhat modified, platform. It is worth paying attention to the reduction in height by 30 mm. Ground clearance of 180 mm allows you to confidently pass the most difficult sections of the road.

It should be noted that so far there is no excitement among fans of this model. The old version is still held in high esteem. Manufacturers decided to add the “Classic” index to the name of the car (2006-2012).

Advantages overview

In the updated Suzuki CX4 ( specifications which have changed in better side) rear passengers can now feel much more spacious. The increase in length was precisely in the rear and trunk. The driver's seat also did not go unnoticed. In it, the longitudinal adjustment of the seat has become noticeably longer, and this allows even tall people to feel comfortable. It has also become more comfortable for the front passenger, whose seat is now height adjustable, just like the driver’s. Although it’s a little hard to sit in the front, the support on the sides is beyond praise.

Depending on the configuration, you can enjoy a panoramic sunroof, as well as all that is typical for modern car. We are, of course, talking about the navigation system, xenon lighting, and parking sensors. The manufacturer did not forget about climate control in two zones. The advantages also include excellent visibility, which is ensured by relatively narrow pillars and large mirrors.

Finding flaws

Taking into account the subjectivity of opinions from the outside, the car began to look noticeably more modern. However, the weaknesses of the Suzuki CX4 are still quite pronounced. First of all, there are complaints about the design of the radiator grille, but this flaw, according to many opinions, gives that very “zest”, revealing the face of the car. There is some debate about the shape of the hood. But this component also adds modernity to the appearance of the SX4.

If you look at the shortcomings of the interior, the first thing that catches your eye is the cheap upholstery. The manufacturer decided not to use expensive materials. This shortcoming was compensated for by the design. There is even soft plastic in some parts of the interior. In general, the interior looks very simple, but quite decent.

Key points affecting the cost of a car

  • Ergonomics deserves special mention. “Suzuki CX4” (price from 1 million rubles) deserves a solid “five” in this criterion and one of the highest places in its class.
  • Transformation of seats. Rear passengers can change the angle of the backrests of their chairs. And on a hot summer day or on a cold winter evening, you can comfortably place drinks on the center armrest, where there are cup holders.
  • There is a large number of different cavities for placing small household items.
  • Spacious trunk, spare wheel.

The weakest points of the Suzuki CX4

According to user reviews and expert findings, the most vulnerable point in the Suzuki CX4 car is the engine internal combustion. This is where manufacturers have something to think about. This model Available with only one engine type. And, it’s worth noting, not very modified.

The Suzuki engine is a naturally aspirated gasoline unit with a capacity of 117 hp. With. and volume 1.6 l. The consumer is given a choice of only the type of transmission - manual transmission or variator. However, there are also shortcomings in the work of the latter. The accelerator pedal responds unstably to the action of the driver's foot, either tearing the car out of place, or creating an invisible wall in front of it. These points, of course, require improvement.

In lower gears, the Suzuki engine, frankly, is “dull”, and this is unpleasant. But the fact is that the maximum torque is at around 4400 rpm.

But with all this we must pay tribute to the efficiency of the engine. This is 8-9 liters per 100 km in the urban cycle and 6 liters on the highway. The car has all-wheel drive, which creates advantages when moving through snow and mud.

Brief overview of the shortcomings

  • It is worth noting the extremely poor level of sound insulation, at which almost any sound of both the engine and wheels can be heard in the cabin.
  • The suspension is tuned well at first glance, but the weak points of the Suzuki CX4 are serious irregularities on the road; knocking and vibration can be felt when driving over them.
  • Handling is quite confident, but at high speeds there is a build-up.

Another reason for the low demand for the Suzuki SX4

The current pricing policy of this model makes the SX4 much more affordable than its competitors. After all, the maximum configuration will cost the consumer only 1.2 million rubles. This price for a well-equipped crossover is a completely acceptable indicator.

So what actually influences the model’s low sales figures? But the fact is that at the time the car entered the market, the price difference with the previous version of the car was too noticeable. And combined with the low variability of the internal combustion engine, the competitiveness of the new model turned out to be low.

“Suzuki CX4” (1.6 engine with “mechanics”) is quite a worthy choice. The driver gains advantages in acceleration and fuel economy.
