Buy oil for filling - you should take 2 liters - there will be a little left for topping up.

- First, drain the old oil. To do this, take a 12 hexagon and unscrew drain plug.

And it will flow right into your hands, so you better warn yourself.
- After unscrewing the drain plug, substitute a container for oil. After the oil drains, clean the magnet on the plug to prevent metal chips from getting into the new oil and screw it back into the body.
- Now we fill in the oil. Using a 17 key, unscrew the filler plug (as in the photo). Fill the syringe with oil and fill it into the reducer.
Oil should be filled up to the level - the holes in the filler neck.
- After reaching the desired oil level, the filler plug is screwed into place.
- Next, wipe everything with a rag and check the tightness of all threaded connections.
Note! Tighten both plugs without excessive fanaticism. Still, it will be unpleasant to pervert with repairs later.

Front axle
On Niva and Taiga cars, in addition to the rear axle, there is also a front axle, since the cars are all-wheel drive. Note that changing the oil in the VAZ 21214 bridges is no different from changing the oil in the rear axle on other models.

First, drain the oil from the gearbox. We twist the drain plug and unscrew the filler.

How much to pour (volume)
Believe it or not, there are some owners who don’t even know that the rear axle of the car also needs regular lubrication, although not as often as the engine. Also, there are those drivers who believe that if the oil does not kick out and does not ooze, it does not need to be changed at all. This is all wrong and it is also necessary to perform this procedure, as in the internal combustion engine and in the gearbox.
The lubricant volume should be 1.3 liters. To fill the required level, you need to wait until the oil flows out of the filler hole, this will be considered the optimal volume.
Replacement
The oil is changed according to the same algorithm as the oil in the gearbox, after a run, so that the oil is hotter and drains better:
- unscrew the filler plug
- place a container for used oil under the drain hole
- unscrew the drain plug
- after the oil has completely drained, tighten the drain plug
- pour oil into the filler hole until oil flows out of it
- tighten the filler plug
What to pour
In terms of volume, 1.5 liters of liquid is enough to replace. Change every 30-40,000 km or every 3 years, whichever comes first.
The most loaded unit in a VAZ 2107 car is the rear axle gearbox. But with proper assembly, installation and timely maintenance it can last longer than even less stressed nodes.
As the instructions indicate, the oil in the rear axle gearbox and gearbox should be changed after a break-in, then after a run of two thousand kilometers and subsequently every sixty thousand kilometers.
In the design of the VAZ car gearbox, a special type of hypoid gear with offset axles is used. This engagement reduces noise when lapping surfaces, but slip along the line of contact of the teeth can lead to a risk of seizing.
Using special gear oil in the gearbox can eliminate it. The composition of the mixture includes extreme pressure additives, class GL-5.
This oil is called Hypoid.
The volume of oil poured into the gearbox is 1.35 liters. Changing the oil in the rear axle gearbox of the VAZ 2107 is carried out according to the same algorithm as the gearbox oil.
Replacement must be done before operating the car in winter and summer. For these seasons, the oil differs in viscosity.
It is lower in winter and higher in summer.
Changing the oil in the rear axle gearbox VAZ
- The mixture contains silver dust. If instead of dust there are metal grains, this indicates a serious breakdown of the car.
Just changing the oil is not enough. - Coffee or black oil color. This indicates the ingress of water into it or the destruction of additives in solution.

Tip: The oil should be drained after the car has been driven so that it is hot and drains well from the crankcase. But care must be taken, the temperature of the liquid can reach 90 degrees.
Work order
So:
- The plug in the hole for filling the oil is unscrewed with a key to "17".
- A container is placed under the drain hole to collect used oil.
- The drain plug is turned out with a hex wrench on “12” to remove the used oil.
- After the liquid has completely drained, the drain plug is screwed into place.
Tip: If the oil drained from the gearbox housing is dark in color or has metallic particles, the rear axle gearbox must be flushed.
- For flushing, it is necessary to fill in approximately one liter of a mixture of thirty percent kerosene with gear oil. Instead of kerosene, you can take diesel fuel.

After filling the oil, the breather is checked and cleaned of dirt. This device is necessary in order to relieve excess pressure in the gearbox, which is formed when the oil is heated and when its level rises.

Steering of a car VAZ 2107
On the model VAZ 2107 steering has a safety design with a articulated-lever steering wheel drive and a worm-roller gearbox.
- The steering gear reducer is mounted with three bolts in the engine compartment on the left side member.
- An adjusting screw installed on the top cover of the gear housing can be used to adjust the engagement gap of the double-ridged roller and the worm built into the design of the device.
- Approximately 0.2 liters of oil is poured into the steering gear housing.
- To fill the oil there is a filling hole on the top cover of the gearbox housing. There is no oil drain hole; liquid is only added to the VAZ 2107 car if necessary.
Filling oil in the steering gear
Before adding oil, check its level:
- The vacuum booster is removed.
- The key to "8" unscrews the plug for filling oil into the gearbox, which has a conical thread.
- A special rod checks the oil level. To do this, the rod is inserted all the way into the gearbox, as shown in the photo.
- From the top edge of the fill hole, the oil level should be at a depth of 15 millimeters.
- If you need to change the oil in the steering gearbox of the VAZ 2107, then the four bolts that secure the bottom cover of the gearbox are unscrewed with a spanner key on “13”.
- It is enough to move the lid and drain the oil into a container.
- The cover is put in place, fixed with bolts and new oil is poured.
- The plug is screwed into the filler hole.
Timely oil change in the main components of the VAZ 2107 car will increase its service life without expensive repairs. And the price of oil change work is acceptable for all car owners.

To do this, I purchased 3 liters of Liqui Moly gear oil with a viscosity of 75W90 and 6 cans of Step-Up Universal Cleaner.
1) Clean the gearbox cover with an iron brush from adhering dirt.

2) Unscrew the filler plug (3/8" square). You should always start with the filler plug, because if it does not unscrew, it is better not to start.

4) We unscrew the bolts of the cover (head on 17/32 - approximately 13.5 mm).
5) Remove the cap and drain the old oil. Be careful, don't sweat it.
6) We thoroughly spill all the insides of the bridge with a cleaner (you can use any automobile in aerosols).
7) With a metal brush, remove the remnants of the old sealant.
8) Once again, spill everything with a cleaner.
9) With a rag we collect the remains of the cleaner from the differential housing.
10) Thoroughly blow all the insides with compressed air (the task is to completely dry the remnants of the cleaner).
11) We turn to the cover, it also needs to be thoroughly cleaned of sealant and dirt.
12) Rinse and dry the lid.
Do not save on sealant, purchase only high-quality high-temperature automotive sealant.
13) Apply sealant.
The sealant must be applied with an even roller with a diameter of about 6 mm without gaps. Holes should be bypassed from the inside.
14) Carefully, trying not to lubricate the sealant, install the cover in place.
15) We stretch the fastening bolts with a torque wrench (torque 41 N * m). Carefully wipe off excess sealant with a rag. Do not rush to immediately fill in the oil, let the sealant dry.
WITH rear gear everything is exactly the same. The only thing is that its cover turned out to be more rusty. Therefore, it was decided to sandblast it.
Cover with soil.

I will describe the process of filling the oil in words - bring the suspension of the car to its working position (support it from below or put it on the wheels), pour oil through the filler hole to the level of the plug (until it starts to pour back out), put the plug in place (lubricating it with a thin layer of sealant). Change of oil
Replacement is best done after a short trip (5-10 kilometers). This will allow the oil in the gearbox to warm up and become less viscous.
